Core Principles

Everything I create through Huge Little Minds is rooted in four core principles. These aren’t just ideas — they’re the foundation of how I support families in raising emotionally healthy, confident children.

  • Parents as the experts
  • Learning about the brain
  • Early intervention
  • Fun and engaging

Meet the Brain Monsters!

Welcome to the world of Brain Monsters — a fun, friendly team of characters created to help children understand their brains and explore mental health in a safe, playful way.

Each Brain Monster represents a different part of the brain, brought to life with personality, color, and stories. This imaginative approach helps children connect with complex concepts in a way that’s simple, memorable, and engaging. By using characters, we make learning about the brain feel more like a game and less like a science lesson — although science is exactly what they're learning!

Why Brain Monsters?

  • Character-based learning makes it easier for children to remember information.

  • Storytelling adds emotional connection, making tricky topics feel approachable and safe.

  • Third-person perspective allows children to talk about big feelings and behaviours without feeling shame or embarrassment.

  • Using correct brain part names empowers children with real knowledge — it’s science, and it’s normal!

  • Early understanding helps children build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience that lasts a lifetime.

By giving the brain a name, a face, and a story, children not only understand what they’re feeling, but also why — and what they can do about it.

So, without further ado...

Meet the team!

Meet "The Team"

The Brain

"The Boss"

The brain monster is amazing - it controls every part of the body and controls how we think, feel and react.

Amygdala

"The Security Guard"

This monster is the brain’s security system. It senses danger and makes us feel scared or worried — all to keep us safe!

Hippocampus

“The memory keeper”

This monster helps us to remember things - and how we feel about those things. It helps us remember what’s safe or not, so our brain knows how to respond next time.

Pre-frontal Cortex

"The Calm Planner"

This smart monster helps us calm down and make good choices when we are upset or scared.

Neuron

"The Messenger"

Neuron monsters help us learn by building bridges & pathways. Neurons help all the brain parts talk and work together.
